A) Meeting This Week + Content 

This week we will be hosting a synchronous zoom meeting on Thursday (9/17) from 7:30-8:00 pm EDT. We will be doing brief introductions and providing an overview of our club, answering any questions you may have about our activities this semester, and discussing the following article about COVID, isolation, and elderly (including those with dementia) in nursing homes!

B) Care Package 

Over the course of the summer, we have contacted ~10 assisted living facilities around RI that have a memory care unit, that have agreed to us sending residents letters or themed cards, which will be very beneficial to their mental health during this isolating and difficult time!

Here’s how we’re going to proceed: please sign up here by Sept. 16th (https://forms.gle/9Jc9Le3StT4XGAt7A) if you are interested in participating! We will be collecting letters, cards, art works etc. in all forms (digital & physical) before Sept. 24th and then sending everything out in a single package to each facility.

C) Weekly Announcement(s) 

- Walk to End Alzheimer's! 

Every year we participate in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which is set on Oct. 4th this year. Though there will NOT be a coordinated walk by the Association, there are still several ways for you to participate with us!

2. Help us fundraise: Our team goal is to raise $500 and we would like your help! If you have the means, please donate under our team’s name. If not, help us spread the word by liking and sharing our posts on social media (see below for our accounts)

3. Walk & share on the day of: For those in PVD and are interested, we’re planning a social-distanced walk around campus on the day of the Walk.

For those not in PVD, you can walk around your neighborhood (safely of course!) and share your pictures and memories!

 

- Speaker Panel (Oct. 22), mark your calendars!

We have gathered a group of researchers that focus on clinical research, public policy research, neurology and more! They will be speaking to us about their research and answering some questions! More details to come in future weeks!
